Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata has long been considered the Dominican Republic’s most complete tourist destination.
Better known as the Amber Coast, its territory shelters possibly the largest deposits of this fossilized vegetable resin to be found worldwide.

Cabarete, renowned for its beautiful coves, sprawled across 15 kilometers of smooth, white sand beaches and surrounded by seamounts and lush vegetation
Long considered the surf and kitesurf capital of the Caribbean Basin.  Sought after for its trade winds and huge waves; its waters have hosted the World Cup Windsurfing Competition.
Diving is another popular sport.  Tennis and horseback riding follow.

Adventure tourism enthusiasts will find themselves skidding in the midst of the breathtaking rolling hills of the Cordillera Septentrional.
Damajagua Falls rests along its rugged path.
A geological fault, refreshing natural pools hide beneath 27 dazzling waterfalls, contoured around a 7 meter deep canyon.
Embark on a thrilling ascent across every cascade, nose-diving in downward spiral across every pool in the form of a synchronized dive.
A natural wonder, drip wet in its crystalline cool waters.  An unparalleled wide space; an ideal hideaway where you may lose yourself in the midst of a heavenly silence which invites you to reflect upon.

Its leafy, dense tropical forest and the meek whistle of an exotic wildlife will delight nature lovers.
A tropical rain forest habitat; a great proliferation of Damajagua trees gratifies passer-by with its colorful flowers.  On the surface of the marshland, its trunk and branches tilt back in order to adapt to its environment, closely rooted to the mud and contributing to the formation of the soil.

Hiking has become an extremely popular activity amongst visitors.  Isabel de Torres Natural Reserve, and its surrounding promontory, has an elevation of 800 meters.  Reef limestone makes up the highest part of its peak, and loam sits below it; most of its 15 rivers and streams are found beneath the surface.  Striking ecological trails are burrowed by a singular wildlife, as well as a botanical garden.

Climb the mountain, glide across fascinating skylines of the city of Puerto Plata aboard the cableway.  A statue of a redeeming Christ waits for you with open arms at the top.
Explore the first Hispanic settlement of the New World; a rare archeological find unearthed by the first European settlement in America.

The first Mass was celebrated in this site, and the first city council in the continent was established here.
A museum safeguarding pre-Hispanic objects, as well as maps and miniature models of what once was the city are open to history buffs that walk their halls to quench their thirst for Fifteenth Century colonial-era artifacts.  A Taino museum augments its cultural offering.
